No Solar Roof? No Sweat, How you Can Still be a Solar Investor

Source | Solar Share

Canberra is known for many things: politics, frosty winters, roundabouts. But did you know that Canberra has now flicked the switch on Australia’s largest community owned solar farm?

The farm powers 260 homes all thanks to the 550 investors who contributed a total of $2.4 million to fund the project. Not only will the project save 1,700 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year, but it will also spell a win for investors with returns on investment expected to start anytime in the first 12 months.

Best of all many of the investors live in apartments, or don’t have access to solar rooftops.

This is more than just another solar success story – it represents the power of communities in the new age of renewable energy. Investors chose to contribute anything from $500 – $100,000; even local university students got in on the action! It just goes to show that smart energy is for everyone, no matter what their budget, or their access to a solar rooftop.

With another even bigger community solar farm being built in Goulburn it’s only a matter of time before there’s one near your home!
